Garden Party 2003 ]
Following a week that was remarkable for continuous heavy rain we had a lovely sunny day for our Garden Party and AGM, held on Saturday 4th September 2004. This is a very friendly get together open to all club members, offering food, drink, raffle, judging competition, convivial conversation and the climax of the day is our Chicken Run, won this year by Blackie.

The general ambience of the day.
Liz and Janet discussing the price of eggs while Steve tries to ignore them.
Steve, Pat and Les preparing raffle tickets ready for the draw.
Janet won first prize in our mini-judging contest and received a bag of feed from Les Carr, who was voted into a second term as president during the earlier AGM.
The highlight of the day as usual was
the Chicken Run which was won by Phillipa Joiner's talented little game hen,
Blackie. They are the first recipients of the Suffolk and Essex 'Fastest Bird'
Trophy.
(You can just see it on the picture if you look closely.)
The only rules are competitors
must not fly and must go from the start line and cross the finish line in the
right direction and under their own steam. Running is the preferred method
of navigating the course, though walking and waddling are also
acceptable.
This event is open to all poultry and this year we had enough ducks entered to
fill one of the heats. The first attempt at the duck heat had to be re-run as
all competitors went in the wrong direction, probably looking for slugs under
the bushes.

I'm not sure if this is the start or the end of the final, but Phillipa's bird was already back in its pen by this stage.

Second place went to Titch the duck, who thinks she is a
chicken, and third place went to Silvana's mongrel cock, 'Arry, who was fastest
up the course but unfortunately could
reach the food over the finishing line without actually crossing it.
